Big Zzzzzz for Piniella

How long before Carlos Zambrano tears the team apart?

It will be up to Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella to decide what to do about Carlos Zambrano missing a team plane to Atlanta on Monday.

The Cubs manager is in charge of discipline for any violation of airplane policy.

It's common to get permission not to fly with the team. And according to sources close to the matter, Zambrano's teammate Ryan Dempster asked for -- and received -- permission to fly later to Atlanta in order to help take care of some personal family business.

Everyday when I see Piniella it just seems like he'd rather be somewhere else. Does this man care? His pitchers do as they please, except pitch. If not for Randy Wells pitching like he has who knows how bad they would look.

The rookie looked like a winner over Atlanta until Lou's top two relievers Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg couldn't hold a 5-1 lead with six outs to go only to lose 6-5 in 12 innings. I never saw any fire from Piniella once.

I think GM Jim Hendry needs to start thinking new manager. Piniella has no control of this team and he may not care either.

Since Big Z is suspended and could'nt pitch unless he put a fat suit on and try to sneak in as Bartolo Colon, what's the big deal?
Oh wait that would not work since Colon was getting hammered by the worst team in the American League, Oakland.
I'm not a Lou fan but what did you want him to do, grab Marmol by the neck and start bashing his head against the Gatorade machine?
This was a bad loss, Randy Wells should have 3 wins by now, and the Cubs could use some improvement to their bullpen.
That said, it's June 2nd, the Cubs are only 4 games out, and you move on because all is OK in Cubland.
The next time your team is losing and you need to switch the station, maybe "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" might be more in line of what you need to analyze for problems....

Z is on the team and according to their rules he needed to ask like Dempster did, he did not. Zambrano is acting more like Sosa everyday and management is not happy with him.

There was more to this story in the Trib.

When Gregg gave up the homer Lou just sat there. I'm not talking just last night. Lou has looked uninterested all season.

For your information Colon did not get hammered. Ozzie insists on playing the useless Wilson Betemit on defense and his error with a walk and a couple donk singles set up one hammered pitch that was a double.

why did they pitch to Chipper Jones with first base open? lou was asleep on that one.

the sox are bringing up Gordon Beckham today?

ozzie had a few good quotes: "I hope I can sleep tonight and not think about it," said Guillen with a broad smile and a sarcastic tone to his comments. "White Sox fans and the media should be happy now," said Guillen with a wry smile. "He's here. I hope he can save us."

is anyone taking odds on the first reference to "bend it like Beckham" from the media?

scott, they sent Betemit down in Beckham's place.

Bill, even better they designated him for assignment.

I'm glad they're going to play Beckham now. Albert Pujols and Evan Longoria stepped right in, so why not him?

Now if they can figure out how to hit guys they've never seen I'd be happy. 1-6 against first timers is pathetic.

scott, another first timer pitching todays game.

i heard ozzie interviewed on the radio before the game and he said: "that he hit 300 at the double AA level and 400 at triple AAA level so he should hit 500 in the major leagues.

betemit didn't do anything with us, so i guess i'm glad to see him up here too.

they are saying that they are going to play him at three positions though. i don't like the sound of that.

The Sox have too many guys on the infield. They need to settle on who they want at third and second.

A guy in the Trib asked why Kenny didn't go for Nate McLouth from Pittsburgh because centerfield is our biggest deficiency.

The Sox don't have superstars but they do have a lot of quality. Nix, Beckham, Fields and Getz can all play the same positions. If Fields doesn't hit he'll be out.

let beckham and fields compete for third base.

ramirez is fine and so are nix/getz at second.

everytime we get something going they start to mess with it.

they are their own worst enemies.
