Cubs clatter

Today is the Cubs home opener and it's odd as usual.

First, why hasn't this game been pushed to tomorrow? It's cold, rainy, and windy. It's not called yet so the Cubs can sell their concessions and make more money. Don't they care about the fans and their comfort? Probably call it when the bank hits $250k for the day and do it again tomorrow.

Early this morning some idiot hung a dead goat on the Harry Caray statue. People are stupid. Security cams are everywhere and nobody saw this happening. Cubs PR move?

Lou Piniella wake up and play Reed Johnson everyday. The guy can flat out play defense and won the game when he took the grand slam away from Milwaukee's Prince Fielder. In the end, Milton Bradley getting hurt won the game. Johnson replaced him the inning before.

Finally, they had the longest spring training ever. Good time to evaluate all the players. Last night Piniella the Cubs manager said he won’t use Kevin Gregg “in the eighth inning, because he sits here, and he goes out and his leg is a little tighter in the ninth. I wasn't aware of that." Was Lou even in Arizona the past two months?

The Cubs are not scared of a little cold and rain unlike those guys on the South Side. Cub fans know it's not just a game, it's an event that includes the party outside the park.
Reed Johnson can't play everyday because of his back. He will get a lot of games in though. Bradley has been a disappointment so far, but hopefully he can turn it. around.
The Cubs don't need PR moves so my guess is the goat was involved in a freak accident while trying to jump on the statue.
Gregg's days as the closer are numbered......

To all die-hard Cub fans, who like to party-hardy but not pay any attention to the GAME OF BASEBALL, the White Sox season opener at the park was postponed due to 2+ inches of snow on the ground, playing field, and seats. And, I wonder, who actually does the postponing of a MLB game. Is it the umpires? Is it the managers? I really don't think that Ozzie Guillen woke up last Monday morning and decided that because of the snow HE would cancel the game just because of a little snow and any player on the Sox or the Royals could get injured. DUH, let's think about that. Granted, inside the warmer sections of the ball park, where the food and drink is better than what you could get at Wrigley any day, we Sox fans could have spent our time there instead. But, we enjoy watching the game before we celebrate the win. We actually can tell you the score during and after the game. It wasn't raining last week. It SNOWED. And the only PR the White Sox need to mention is this "THE 2005 WHITE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES." And they'll probably do it again. The Cubs never will.

Linda, all games postponed before the start are handled by the team. After the first pitch it is in the hands of the umpires.

Scott, as it turns out your conspiracy theory on the Cubs sucking money out of their fans was way off base. The game was played and won as the World Series march begins. Tuesday brought similar weather.
Linda, If I want good food I will not be going to the Cell. If I want a piece of heaven I'll be in the bleachers of The Friendly Confines with a beer and a hot dog!
